Web: Facebook Share Button

I was looking for the official facebook share button generator, but cannot seems to find it on their website. That’s because facebook no long want to support the share button, in order to make wider usage of the like button. I personally prefers the Share button, and here’s why!

How “Share” appear on feed:

How “Like” appear of feed:

quite clearly, facebook share get more space and attention on your feed.

a good documentation on how to implement Facebook share can still be found from google cache, which is still supported by Facebook.
I have ScreenGrab! the page, in case the cache get cleared, and you can download the png file below:

Let me include the source code for share button with counter here too:

Facebook Share Button with Above Counter

<a name="fb_share" type="box_count" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php" share_url="http://howtogetitworking.com/">Share</a><script src="http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect.php/js/FB.Share" type="text/javascript"></script>

Facebook Share Button with Inline Counter

<a name="fb_share" type="button_count" href="http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php" share_url="http://howtogetitworking.com/">Share</a><script src="http://static.ak.fbcdn.net/connect.php/js/FB.Share" type="text/javascript"></script>

replace the variable inside the share_url attribute with a specify URL you may want to share, otherwise the share url will be of the page where you placed the button at.
the available type attributes are: button_count | box_count | button | icon_link | icon. of which only button_count and box_count will render the share counter.

God Bless you, do you know I was mandated to implement the share button on our web page(s) about the same time Facebook took this very valuable interactive social functionality, I had searched 8+ days before I got this website. Outcome of the Facerbook Like button is poor compared to what you’ll get from Facebook share like you mentioned earlier, the timeliness and value of your gesture of goodwill couldn’t be more appreciated, thank you.

    Hi Ran Pan,
You are definitely most welcome! the solution i implemented here is not complete.
But is definitely good enough for most people to head somewhere with the share button!
Yup, cannot understand Facebook direction in encouraging “Like” instead of Share button.
And so sorry it took you so many days to find my site! I wish i have more time to be used for optimising my content.
